My
name is Kenny Earwood. It's always been a dream of mine to go into the
law enforcement field whenever I grew up; whether it be a police officer, or
any other law enforcer, it’s been my goal since I was little. Upon
entering high school, I enrolled in the JROTC program and I realized that it
wasn't that bad. Those one and a half years of ROTC put a seed in my
head, and throughout high school I formulated my life plan around the military.
So, upon graduating Methodist University, I plan to enlist in the United
States Military under the Air Force branch. I want to do this because I
like the whole idea of the military and being a soldier; I want to be a part of
something that is bigger than just myself. Within the Air Force, I want
to become a detective that works on the base and solves the crimes within its
boundaries. With a college degree under my belt, I can enlist as an
officer and begin with a decent pay. I could do the same thing by
becoming a police officer, but the pay and benefits wouldn't be as good, and
for this reason I decided to join the military. With this choice to join
the Air Force, I will be able to provide for my family and have a stable income
with which to provide for them.
Within
five years after graduating from college I still plan on being in the military,
hopefully still in the Air Force. By the time five years have passed, I
would hope I will have received at least one promotion and by that time I hope
to be a Captain. I might decide to choose a different career path, within
the military, of course. However, I don't believe I shall do so easily,
because it has been a dream of mine to become a police officer, and eventually
a detective, since I was little. After five years, I should have at least
one kid of my own and my current girlfriend will be my wife after I graduate.
I want my first-born child to be a boy, and I plan on naming him Eric,
after my best friend in high school. Eric and I were really close in high
school before I got a job my senior year, but I told him I would name my son
after him. I honestly don't think I'm going to actually buy a house; I
might just rent an apartment until I find out where I'm going to be permanently
stationed.
After 10 years of being in
the military, I hear many people say they get tired of it and they get out.
I don't believe I'm going to get out until I retire, but I'm not going to
try to set it in stone because anything could happen ten years from then.
I plan to stick through it and move up the ranks within the military. My
son will most definitely be in school by this point, but I'm not sure if I will
have another child or not, but if I do hopefully it will be a girl. Five
years and a couple of promotions later will be a good step forward during
that stage of my life. I hope to be in
charge of my own unit; only I hope it’s not a too big of a unit. I have a fear of talking in front of large
crowds, and I don’t want to have to give speeches to a lard unit. I might get over it, I might not; regardless
of that point, I will become a leader in the future.
Finally, the day everybody
dreams of, the 20 year anniversary of your chosen career. The day you can finally consider retirement,
and the day your life will most likely become easier. After my 20th year of being in the
military, I plan to retire from the military and I will most likely be in my
mid-forties. After I retire, I do not
plan to be a couch potato, I want to become either a state trooper or an FBI
agent. I wanted to become an FBI agent
because I used to watch the TV shows about them. I know its completely different than what
happens in real life, but I still thought the idea of what they are meant to do
is really cool and interesting.
These are the goals I have
set for myself in life, and these are the things I want to accomplish while I
can. The goals you set for yourself in
life are the qualities that define who you are; and so, my goals define myself
as determined and strong willed. My goals
are important to me, what are the goals you set for yourself in your life?
